Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to host with you to use your support?

All of our hosting is done on the WP Engine platform, which is a premier hosting provider. While we do not require clients to migrate their site so it’s hosted with us, we do recommend it so we can more easily support you.

If you are happy with your current host but need maintenance and support, we also offer that.

Will you do the work for me?

Yes! Unlike other support companies who just tell you what needs to be done, with our monthly support and development hours we will login to your website and make the changes for you. We will also take care of all the updates, backups, and security protection for your site.

What kind of work is covered in the extra development hours?

We do anything related to WordPress. We will install plugins, add content, build out pages, change the menu, make modifications to sliders, add photos, update your theme or plugins, post a blog, etc. If it’s WordPress, we cover it.

Do unused add-on hours roll over?

No, unused add-on hours in one month do not roll-over to the next month. Instead, the hours are a ‘use it or lose it’ model and must be consumed in the calendar month. Each new month you will get a new set of hours.

What if I need more support or development hours than allowed in my plan?

If the support or development need is a one-time need then you may purchase additional hours from us. If you are likely to consistently need more hours, then you may contact us to increase the extra dev hours on your plan.

How often are Website Updates performed?

Keeping your WordPress core software, themes, plugins, and PHP updated is very important for the security and performance of your website. Updates can help protect your website against malware attacks, hacks, and other common security threats.

ThemeSupport has you covered by performing updates as follows:

  • Security fixes are updated on a daily basis, as released.
  • Plugins are updated on a weekly basis, as needed.
  • WordPress, PHP, and themes are updated on a monthly basis, as needed.

What is included with the Site Performance add-on?

Content changes to a site, plugin updates, theme updates, and WordPress updates all affect site performance. So, even though your site was optimized once, it won’t remain that way indefinitely.

That’s why each month we perform the following optimization service:

  1. Update to latest version of everything (plugins, theme, wp core, and php)
  2. Review and remove unused themes and plugins
  3. Image optimization (optimize, resize, use WebP format)
  4. CDN (provides high availability and performance to end users)
  5. Cache optimization (WP Rocket)
  6. Database cleaning and optimization
  7. Minify CSS and JS
  8. Delete unused tags
  9. Check for broken links
  10. Make recommendations

NOTE: We do not rewrite or change the code of themes and plugins. Also, if you have a custom theme, or as with any website, there are limits to the amount of optimization that can be done.

What is ‘Fix-it Insurance’?

Fix-it Insurance means that if your site is hacked or if you have a bug due to a plugin or theme update, we will fix it for you free of charge (up to 1 hour).

A few important notes about this:

  • Custom development (CSS, HTML, PHP, JavaScript) is not covered in this insurance. If an upgrade or hacking requires custom development to fix, then this development would cost extra.
  • Themes or plugins that are not commercially supported are not covered in this guarantee.
  • In many cases fixing a hacking or upgrade issue will require reverting to the last known clean version of the site. In this case, ThemeSupport is not responsible for any lost data due to this reversion.
  • If a bug or conflict in a theme or plugin causes your site to break, then we will restore the site to the previous clean version and will not attempt to update that theme or plugin further until a fix is released.

What counts as a visit to my website?

A raw visit in reality is any hit to any part of your site that draws raw server resources. We do not count all raw hits to your site as a visit, however, because every hit to your site doesn’t necessarily represent any value to you. The following guidelines are laid out to make counted visits as clear and fair as possible.

  1. A single visit is one unique IP address logged per day (UTC). This means that a unique IP address can only count as one visit per day.
  2. Pages and other dynamic requests are counted as visits.
  3. Static assets such as images, css, js, and other files do not count as a visit, and are excluded.
  4. Known bot user agents and prefetched traffic are not counted as a visit.

Why does your visit count not match what I see in my Analytics data?

It’s not uncommon that the visits we count do not match the visits in your Analytics data. Fundamentally there are two reasons why visits may not match your data.

  1. We are each tracking visits for different purposes
    • It can be difficult to truly judge what visits are actually coming into your site if you’re comparing visitor counts from different resources. It’s important to keep in mind that no matter where you look, each visitor count is filtered and sorted based on a certain set of goals.
      • For your Analytics, the goal is to track “human” traffic in order to provide marketing and conversion analytics.
      • For ThemeSupport, the goal is to track “human” traffic in comparison to physical server resources used.
  2. Your Analytics requires a javascript to load to count the visit
    • This can be circumvented by spoofed user agents or users who have scripts disabled in their browser. Meaning your Analytics wouldn’t execute or be able to track those visits. ThemeSupport, however, would track and count them as we use the raw server logs.
